Before We Got Married ( Relationship Life Story by a Nurse)

The challenges of a male nurse who married a colleague doctor

It was almost in the last part of my internship at one of the State University's Teaching hospitals, during the Christmas period of 2012.

we were all getting ready with selection and arranging of all our documents from the various departments that we were posted.

Gathering our attendance sheets and log books for signing and arranging our reports was the major work for that day. Every one of us was excited to finally be out of this place and back to school again, though we were to have our final exams in less than a months’ time.

One Of My Most Stressful Days (True Story by a Nurse)

I have had many stressful days at work. This is just one of them and I hope it will help to encourage someone.

Let's begin...

It was a day that got me into a lot of moods and emotions .It was a day that put me to the test of patience and self-control.
It was also a day that I learned the lesson of responsibility in a hard way.

Even though other colleagues were angry at what happened, I was calm. Maybe because I was too weak to talk or even to get angry.

I simply did what I was supposed to do,took the next available bus and rode home, sleeping most of the time as I commuted.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Are Nurses Guilty of Indecent Dressing?

Indecent dressing is the wearing of any apparel clothes that is not socially, culturally and morally acceptable.

The society obviously frowns at this modern trend that is causing serious vices and creating serious outcry.

The nurse is supposed to be an epitome of every inimitable virtue, a mirror of goodness and powerful light that shines strongly to illumine the dark path of the society where s/he operates.

The nurse is seen as same both in the hospital setting and outside. The patient and relations that you treat in the hospital will always address you as,”nurse” or “my nurse” whenever they see you either in the bus, train station, driving your car, at the airport, church or any social function.

When a patient slapped you

This post is a follow up to the story about Nurse Jane who was slapped by an angry patient while trying to explain to him how to take his food and medications.

Everyone was disturbed and angry but as usual, you need to keep your calm, recalling that he was still a patient and the customer was always right.

But would the customer be right when he assaults or tries to kill you even when you are there to save and nurture his own life?

I promised to let you know what happened between the hospital CEO, the patient and nurse Jane, today. So here is the story.

Enjoy…

I Was Dumped After Buying My Wedding Dress

It’s September. That time of year when the air is cool enough to let you enjoy the sun beating down as you sit on a terrace sipping a glass of sangria.
I’m laughing with my best friend about her disastrous dates.

I used to be able to relate, but recently, it has been all about which flowers will be in my bouquet, who makes the guest list, what to do with those relatives I haven’t seen in 10 years but Mom says I “absolutely need” to include.

You, Do You

WARNING! If you clicked on this, make sure you read to the end

Written by Viola Ifeyinwa Okolie

I had a friend in school, the "most likely to succeed" type.

She was brilliant - book and street smart - had the drive and ambition, was almost always the first to be considered for a position of responsibility but...

Ten years after we graduated, she was still job hunting.

From one mediocre, destiny destroying, slave labour masquerading as a "job" to the other. She would get frustrated after three months of deceiving herself she had a job, and kuku embrace her unemployment status with pride.

Nearly Killed By Patient's Relations

It was a day that remains etched in my memory and even though it’s been many years now since it happened, I still recall clearly the terror and fear that ran through the cool atmosphere of that evening as they roared in anger.

It was just one event captured in a certain place which depicts the risks that nurses and medics face everyday in the discharge of their duties.

Countless remain unknown because they are unreported.

What actually happened?

How Technology Can Benefit You As A Nurse

In the early days of online education, serious students viewed the entire concept with great skepticism

And for valid reasons: dial-up Internet connections were too slow, educational institutions popped up out of nowhere that no one had ever heard of, and the list goes on.

But technology is forever improving. Below are several reasons why today’s distance learning options are fantastic options for those who are seeking a quality education from an online nursing school.
  • Many courses today have progressed well beyond one lackluster slide after another. Broadband connections have greatly improved the streaming videos that make an online classroom come alive. Students can now see and hear their instructor deliver a prepared lecture, often in real-time.

Men In Nursing On The Increase

Any  observant person especially one who is in the medical or paramedical department  wherever there is a college or school of nursing would notice the trend.I was always asked the same question when i was in school regarding the increase of males in the profession that was seen as a female dominated place.
Some were even asking how i coped with all the females in the class.Recent studies show that the number of men entering careers in nursing is expected to rise over coming years.

How Does Social Media Affect Nurses?

We can easily say that within the last ten years social media has changed the way in which the world spreads information. Social media has touched every form of business and healthcare is no exception. Sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have helped large and small hospital systems define their personalities and reach out to their patients in new ways.

Social media has positively enabled small and large hospital systems to reach out to their patients and communities in brand new ways. It is currently estimated that over 70% of nurses regularly use social media.

That is a tremendous amount and cannot be disregarded. On one hand, social media has enabled nurses to connect with one another and share inspirational and educational material. On the other hand, social media has also created numerous concerns related to patient safety and patient privacy rights.

A Day In The Live of A Nurse

By IRENE NORTH

High school students from Gering and Scottsbluff got a chance last week to learn what it’s like to be a nurse.

Becky Kautz, a member of the nursing faculty at Western Nebraska Community College, gathered current nurses to speak about how they came to the profession while student nurses and other members of the faculty showed the 50 students what life is like for a nurse in several of the nursing disciplines.

“This is the first time we’ve tried this activity,” Kautz said. “We invited high school students who have expressed an interest in nursing as a career path.”

Kautz said there is a continual need for nurses and WNCC can provide the training.

“We have both LPN and RN degrees here,” she said.

T.J. Dredla, an anesthetist with Regional West Medical center, said he didn’t really know at first if he wanted to be in health care.

“Something kept pulling me toward medicine,” he said. “The many opportunities in nursing was comforting because I could practice at home in rural areas and help my friends and family.”

Plight of African Nurses Risking Their Lives To Treat Ebola Patients Revealed

Shunned by their families, evicted from their homes and paid next to nothing
  • Nurses treating Ebola victims are routinely thrown out of rented homes
  • In Sierra Leone, many are shunned by their terrified friends and families
  • 57 per cent of medics treating Ebola have succumbed to the disease
  • Liberia and Sierra Leone are the countries worst hit by the epidemic
The women’s staff room at Hastings Ebola Treatment Center in Western Rural Area, Sierra Leone, is cramped, stuffy and hot from the sunlight flooding through the window.
Nurses in blue scrubs squeeze onto the rickety beds and try to sleep during their break in the Green Zone.
Later, they will go to the Yellow Zone, pull on their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and go back to the wards - the Red Zone.

Nurses are so busy and overworked they haven't got time to eat

Most nurses are so overworked because of Government cuts they don’t have time to eat properly at work.
Royal College of Nursing research found 79 per cent failed to get a break long enough for a healthy meal in shifts stretching up to 14 hours. Nearly two thirds questioned said workplace stress led to them snacking from vending machines.
Half said low staff levels caused by cutbacks meant they had no time to get a sit down meal in canteens that were often too far away.
And 75 per cent on nights said machine snacks like crisps were often the only food available during their shifts.
